The Beginning
Hello everyone.
My name is Mary Ann. I am a Filipina raised in Manila, now residing in Singapore for 9 years. I have been working in the financial industry for the past 26 years.
I started to have interest in personal development when I moved to Singapore back in 2011. To improve my family's financial situation and support our dreams, I made a brave decision that required me to leave my husband and two daughters. I took a leap of faith to work as an overseas foreign worker (OFW). I was blessed to be accepted in a similar role in our office in Singapore. I told myself that I have no other option but to be successful in exchange for the lost time away from my family. However being in a more competitive environment, I knew then that to be able to achieve a higher level of success in a different country and in a new environment on my own, I need to enhance my skills and my mindset. It was then that I started investing on self-help books and personal development courses.
The first big investment I made on myself then is to enroll in a NeuroLinguistic Programming (NLP) course. As I immersed myself in the company of people hungry for ways of being a better version of themselves, I started seeing the positive effects in my life. I became more focused on my life goals and created my first life plan. I became more brave and learned strategies on how to overcome my self-limiting beliefs. I learned to manage my state when I am feeling frustrated by choosing the right words. I was able to improve my relationships with people around me by being just a more positive person. I was able to have promotion at work every year. I told myself, wow this is so amazing. It was then I decided to go for a more advanced course NLP Master Practitioner so I can help others achieve the same positive effects of knowing those newfound skills. I was so happy when I got certified because that means I can now help others. This was the beginning of that longing to make a difference to others.
Every year I see to it that I put the biggest investment of my time and money on myself. It has been a very interesting journey since then, which continues on to this day.
Gaining the knowledge and being continuously in the company of like-minded people, this is my source of inspiration and courage to try new things. I know that if I succeed or if I fail, I will always get a lesson that will make me a smarter person than I was before I took action.
So today I have created this blog to share the message that we should continue to acquire new skills. I can never emphasize enough that having support from others is crucial to how fast or slow we can be in our journey to self-improvement. We should not stop dreaming. Each year should only make us better and wiser, and we should make sure that we will never look back with regrets. Failure is just a delay, and we can use the lessons to move us faster because we now know what we should not do again. Life is short, we should seize the day and treat each new day as a gift.
If through this blog I can influence even just one person to be a better version of him/herself, then my time here is all worth it.
